See the Golden Circle and more on this small-group minibus tour from Reykjavik, with stops at a dairy farm, Fridheimar Tomato Farm, and Kerid Crater.
From Reykjavik, you head to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Iceland's parliament was founded here in 930 AD, and the park lies where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, so you can walk between the continents.
You also take an easy walk to Oxararfoss Waterfall, one of the few human-made waterfalls in Iceland. The Oxara River was diverted in the 10th century to supply water to the people attending the parliament.
Next, you visit Efstidalur Dairy Farm, a family farm with views of Mount Hekla, where you can meet Icelandic cows, horses, and dogs and try the farm's homemade ice cream.
At the Geysir Geothermal Area, you see bubbling hot springs, steaming vents, and colorful mineral pools. Strokkur Geyser erupts every 4 to 16 minutes, shooting water 49 to 66 feet (15 to 20 meters) into the air. The original Great Geysir, which gave all geysers their name, is here too, though it's now mostly dormant.
Then you continue to Gullfoss Waterfall, where the Hvita River drops 105 feet (32 meters) in two tiers into a rugged canyon. Viewing platforms let you see the falls from above and up close.
You stop for lunch at Fridheimar Tomato Farm, a greenhouse in a geothermal area. The menu centers on the tomatoes and vegetables grown on the farm, and there's usually a short introduction to the greenhouse.
The last stop is Kerid Crater, a volcanic crater formed about 6,500 years ago. It's about 180 feet (55 meters) deep, with red and black slopes around blue-green water. You can walk around the rim or take a trail down to the water's edge.
Then you return to Reykjavik. Your local driver-guide shares stories about the nature and culture of the area throughout the day.
