Description

Walk on a glacier on this family-friendly glacier hike on Falljokull Glacier, an outlet glacier of Vatnajokull Ice Cap, the largest ice cap in Europe.

You board a modified 4x4 truck and drive toward Falljokull Glacier. The area around it has been a filming location for movies such as "Batman Begins" and "Interstellar" and the TV series "Game of Thrones." As you get closer, you drive over rugged terrain shaped by the glacier.

When you arrive, your licensed guide shows you how to wear and use your gear before you step onto the ice.

Then you explore the crevasses, moulins, and other features of the glacier. Along the way, your guide explains how glaciers form and behave and shares other facts about the area.

The aim is to spend at least 1.5 hours on the ice, so you have time to enjoy the views and take photos.

The meeting point is the Skaftafell Terminal Tour Center. Arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

You hike about 1.2 to 2.5 miles (2 to 4 kilometers), with about 490 feet (150 meters) of elevation gain.

The minimum age is 8, and children must fit hiking boots of at least EU size 34.

The tour doesn't include climbing or rope work.

There's no lunch stop.

Ice caves are usually not part of this tour.
